How much does a brake job cost?

The short answer

At Budget Brakes, lifetime warranty brakes start from $100. What you pay depends on your vehicle and on what the free brake inspection finds: pads only, or pads with rotors, calipers or fluid. You get the price in writing before any work starts, and nothing is done without your yes.

What changes the price

Pads only, or pads and rotors

Pads wear out first. If the rotors are still smooth and thick enough, new pads may be all you need. Rotors that are scored, uneven or worn past the minimum thickness stamped on them need replacing too, and that's the biggest jump in price.

Front, rear or both

Each axle is its own job. The front brakes do most of the stopping, so they usually wear out first.

Your vehicle

Trucks, SUVs and cars with large brakes take bigger, costlier parts than a compact car.

What else the inspection finds

A sticking caliper, a leaking hose or old brake fluid adds to the job. It goes on your written price, and you decide what gets done today.

How long you wait

Pads worn down to the metal grind into the rotors. Coming in at the first squeal, before it turns into grinding, keeps the job smaller.

What's added to every invoice

Every Budget Brakes invoice includes a shop supply charge of 17% of the parts and labor, at least $2.99 and never more than $29.99. On a $100 brake job, that's $17.

Coupons and specials

There's a special every month, and all sixteen shops honor it, one coupon per visit. See this month's special before you come in.

Is the brake inspection really free?
Yes. Every Budget Brakes shop does a free six-point brake inspection with no obligation, and you get a written price before any work starts.
